What is Substack?
Substack is an online platform that provides publishing, payment, analytics, and design infrastructure to support subscription newsletters. It’s a platform where creators can build and monetize their audience through subscription-based content.
Substack customer support channels
Substack provides limited customer support channels compared to other platforms. Here are the available options:
- Social Media: Facebook and Twitter
- Facebook: facebook.com/substackinc/

How do I contact Substack?
Substack offers a limited range of customer support channels. Unlike many other platforms, Substack does not provide email support, live chat support, or telephone support. Your primary way to reach out to Substack is through their social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter. You can leave them a message on these platforms with your questions or concerns.
Common problems and solutions
How to recover my password?
If you can’t remember your password to your Substack account, they can send you an email to set a new password. Visit the Forgot Password page and you’ll receive an email with a link that you can use to set your password.
I haven’t received an email – what can I do?
We recommend trying these troubleshooting tips:
- Is the email in your Spam or Junk folder? If so, unblock sender and move to Inbox.
- Are you using a work email address? It’s possible they could be blocking their servers. In this case, you or your IT department will want to whitelist on@substack.com as a safe-sender in your email account.
If you’re still not getting password reset emails, just get in touch with Substack through their social media channels.
What does email disabled mean?
For readers:
- If you’re a free reader and unsubscribing from a publication, Substack will send you an email confirmation that your email has been disabled.
- This means that you’ll no longer receive that publication’s email newsletters.
For writers:
- When a free reader unsubscribes from your publication, Substack will send you an email confirmation that their email has been disabled and removed from your list.
- This notification is optional and can be turned off by going to your ‘Settings" page and unchecking the box next to “Email Disabled Notifications”.
How long can I keep my subdomain?
If a publication remains inactive for more than 6 months, Substack may reassign its subdomain ([name].substack.com).
If a publication is inactive for more than three months (but less than six) and its associated subdomain is requested by another publisher, Substack’s policy is to ask the publisher for permission to reassign the subdomain to the requester.
Subdomains may be reassigned at any time at Substack’s discretion if they believe that the use of the subdomain poses a security or other risk to their platform, employees, or users.
Please note that in order to keep any subdomain, activity on your publication should be authentic. Substack reserves the right to use their discretion when evaluating whether content has been published for the sole purpose of domain squatting.
