Common problems and solutions
How to recover my lost password?
Your Master Password is the only way to unlock your Dashlane account. Only you know your Master Password, and it is never shared or stored by Dashlane.
Our interactive guide helps you confirm whether you’ve forgotten your Master Password. If you’ve forgotten it, this guide helps you find ways you might be able to regain access to your data based on your device, features, and plan:
If you’re using the Safari app or the iOS or Android mobile app and previously activated the Master Password reset with biometrics feature, you can reset your Master Password with your fingerprint or Face ID, depending on your device. You’ll then be able to create a new Master Password and regain access to your account.
If you’re a member of a Dashlane Team or Dashlane Business plan and your team has turned on the account recovery feature, you might be able to send an account recovery request to your Dashlane admin.
For all others, if you’ve forgotten your Master Password, unfortunately, the data you saved in Dashlane can no longer be decrypted. You must reset the account to begin using Dashlane again.
What happens if my phone is lost or stolen with all my Dashlane data?
Because only you know your Master Password or the 4-digit PIN code you set up on our iOS and Android mobile apps, no one else can access your data if your phone or computer is lost or stolen.
Your data is always encrypted on your device. For this reason, only you can access it with your Master Password.
For added security, you can remotely disable Dashlane on any device:
- Sign in to your account on the web app.
- In the ‘My account" menu, select “Settings” then “Manage Logins”.
- From there, select the little cross next to the device you want to disable and select “De-authorize”. Dashlane will deny access to your data from this device.
How to set up and use Dark Web Monitoring?
Setting up Dark Web Monitoring
In the web app, locate and access the “Dark Web Monitoring” section in the left panel. Select “Add email” to enter an email address you want to monitor for a scan.
Enter the email address and select “Send activation link”. Note that the email address that was used to create your Dashlane account is prefilled if it’s not being monitored yet.
Dashlane sends a verification email to the address and shows as ‘Pending verification" in your list of monitored email addresses.
Your next step is to log in to your email account and select the link in the email Dashlane just sent you after you verify that it’s indeed your account, that you made the request, and that you want to confirm the setup. Note that for security reasons this link is valid for only 24 hours.
If you didn’t receive the email, check your spam folder. When you select ‘Yes, I confirm this request", you’re taken to a web page with your Dark Web Scan results.
